Semen donation

How does it work?

The semen donation is an altruistic, anonymous, and voluntary act, in which a healthy male and with an optimum quality semen, gives their spermatozoa so that they can be used in processing attended reproduction, and thus to be able to help couples and single women that need it, to achieve pregnancy.

The donation of semen techniques of attended reproduction is indicated in heterosexual couples in which the man has a total absence of spermatozoa (azoospermia), so much as in ejaculation and as in the testicle, when there is any possibility of transmitting a hereditary or contagious illness and also in women without a partner or a female couple.

 

 

 

When is a donation of semen indicated?

The donation of semen techniques of attended reproduction is indicated in heterosexual couples in which the man has a total absence of spermatozoa (azoospermia), so much as in ejaculation and as in the testicle, when there is any possibility of transmitting a hereditary or contagious illness and also in women without a partner or a female couple.

What people can donate semen?

The donors of semen are healthy youths and mostly they are of the university world, that besides having a semen of normal characteristics and that can survive the unfreezing, they should have a normal IQ.


All the donors are submitted to a physical examination and an anamnesis is carried out in which the family record is also included and Karyotype to rule out genetic inconveniences or hereditary illnesses. Also tests are carried out for:

 

  • AIDS
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • Chlamydia
  • Herpes
  • Cytomegalovirus
  • Syphilis
  • Gonorrhoea

The samples of the youths that are accepted are conserved and frozen for a minimum period of 6 months until all the analyses are carried out and results are negative.
